Skin problems

The skin is tough and strong, but sometimes irritations and other problems can develop. Some of these disorders happen because the skin is exposed to environmental hazards, also canbe caused by germs or changes in the body that occur during the adolescence.

Acne
A condition in which the oil glands become blocked, infected and swollen. It develops during adolescence, becauseat that time the oil glands in the skin begin to produce more oil than before. The best defense against acne is clean skin. A dermatologist, a physician who deals with skin disorders, should treatsevere cases of acne to avoid complications.

Dermatitis
Is a condition in which an area of skin becomes red, swollen, hot and itchy. Substance that irritate the skin, such aschemicals, soaps, or poison ivy, also certain medications and food, can cause dermatitis. It can be trated with medication applied to the skin.

Skin infections
Different types of germs can harm theskin. Boils, which are swollen, painful infections of hair follicles are caused by bacteria.




One type of virus, herpes simplex I causes clusters of water blisters, or cold sores.
[pic]Warts, which are hardened growths on the skin, also caused by viruses. They go away without any treatment, but sometimes they last a long time.

Fungal infections usually occur in warm, moistareas of the skin. Ringworm is an example of it, which is highly contagious, produces red, scaly patches of skin. Ringworm is treated with medications.

Athlete’s foot is common fungal infectionthat causes burning, itching, cracking and peeling of the skin on the bottom of the foot and between the toes.

Skin cancer
A cancer is an area of uncontrolled cell growth that invades thesurrounding tissues and destroys it.
