Why does the ending of Animal Farm not surprise the reader?
Animal Farm is inspired in the Soviet Union governmental problems. It takes place in Mannor Farm, a farm located in England. Thetheme is that power leads to greed. It is about a pig called Old Major who suggests the animals to rebel against their master Mr. Jones. After his death the animals do so and get rid of Mr. Jones. Theanimals make 10 commandments by who they should live by. Pigs Napoleon and Snowball become the leaders of the farm. Snowball suggests things to improve the farm and the lives of the rest of theanimals. But Napoleon does not agree with him and manages to expel him and take control of the farm. Napoleon makes the animals build a windmill, but it falls due to a storm, but Napoleon acuses Snowball ofall the misfortune that happens in the farm. The animals, except for the pigs, begin to have hunger and are now living in similar or worst conditions than in Jones’s times. They build another windmilland have some fights with the humans. The pigs begin breaking the commandments, but secretly change them and convince the animals they were always that way. The pigs one day invite the humans and actlike them. At the end there is no way to difference the pigs from the humans and Napoleon changes the farm’s name back to Mannor Farm.
Orwell’s book has many characters. The minor characters arethe following: Boxer, Clover, and Mollie, three horses. Boxer is a strong, dumb, optimistic horse, Clover is also a nice horse who helps Boxer in all she can, but is smarter than him, and Mollie is apretty, foolish white mare who leaves the farm to have a good life where she won’t work. Squealer is Napoleon’s helper. He talks for him to the other animals and convinces them to obey Napoleon. OldBenjamin is a very smart donkey who, although knows Napoleon is bad , does nothing to prevent bad things happening in the farm. He is slow and most of the time lazy and grumpy.
