HALLOWEEN
There are many different customs which characterize the Halloween. The origin of many of them can be traced to the time of the Celts and linked with the ancient ceremonies and rituals ofthe festival of Samhain.
The name "Halloween" comes from the phrase "All Hallow’S Eve", which means "Night of all saints". He was given this name because it was celebrated the night before all SaintsDay (currently known as the "day of the dead"). As we all know, Halloween has as antecedent the Celtic celebration of Samhain, Word that, according to historians, probably means "End of summer", timein which the Celts celebrated the final harvest and the beginning of the second half "dark" (for winter) of the year, according to the Celtic calendar.
The Festival of Samhain, as well as other ritesand pagan practices, were incorporated into European culture when the Constantito emperor decreed that the inhabitants of the Empire converted to Christianity. Due to the great variety of traditionsin regions conquered by Constantine, this looked for how to integrate rites pagans to the Christian doctrines, thus creating a subtle mixture of truth and traditions.
For this reason, when the Celtswere Christianized, they not resigned completely from their pagan customs, and specifically adapted its pagan festival to the Catholic holiday of all Saints Day - which chronologically coincides.("Halloween", which means "Night of all saints" is the previous night to the "day of all saints").
Later Irish immigrants introduced the celebration of Halloween to the United States, incorporated intopopular culture through adding elements as pumpkins, ghosts, goblins, monsters, witches and more. The biggest problem has been that what emerged as a cult of death and the demons began to adapt toforms and supposedly harmless traditions, creating a holiday that works as all "big business" and includes all sort of costumes, masks, candy, cards, makeup, games, etc.
