Its height is about 55 meters and inside it there are seven bells and 296 steps tothe top. The building material was gray marble, limestone and stones. The Romanesque Style gives a colonnaded facade with Corinthian capitals topping the columns. Was built tostand vertically but began leaning soon after construction started in Audust 1173. It tilts because its foundation was built on unstable soil. The ground beneath the towerfirst started to sink after the first three stories were built. The tower's tilt became more extreme over time, until it became a safery hazard and was closed in 1990. In 2008,was stabilized and declare safe. Actually, the tourist may go inside under strict regulations. Its principal function is to be Bell Tower, also denominated Campanile.
