La historia es la biografía, el diario personal de una niña judía de 13 años, hija de comerciantes alemanes, que cuando comienzan las primeras persecuciones nazis, su familia creyóhallar en Holanda la salvación definitiva. La invasión de Holanda los obligó, en julio de 1942 a elegir entre dos alternativas: someterse al llamamiento de la GESTAPO o esconderse en el anexo de una casa antigua en Holanda que era la oficina y almacén de la empresa del padre de Ana. Había que adoptar mil precauciones: no dejarse ver, no hacer ruido y ser muy cautelosos. En estos términos y bajoel reducido espacio tenían que cohabitar 8 seres diariamente por poco más de dos años. Ana se consagró a la tarea de leer con voracidad y a escribir en su diario llamado Kitty, en el cual se plasman las más sensibles observaciones respecto a su existencia y a la de los demás.
