About USSD
USSD = Unstructured Supplementary Service Data
defined in the GSM standard (stage 1 + stage 2) data bearer formanagement of operator specific supplementary services
– uses the same mechanisms as supplementary services (call divert, call forward,…)
USSD in the GSM/3G network: “as easy as #111#” #111#”
use of signaling network to carry short text strings (182 characters max.) in MAP messages session oriented
– no intermediate store and forward (≠ SMS) – session opened between handset and application –signaling session remains open for duration of dialogue
