White Lies

White lies


A lie is a lie. Always. But there are some situations that make us think if it would not be better to told a little lie, for example it this could help us to express a uncomfortabletruth in a gentler way so that we don't hurt someone else's feelings. Because of that, we could find ourselves thinking that maybe we just can’t say that all lies are bad, may be that little lies canactually not be such a bad thing.

For example, if someone asks you a question that you prefer not to answer: maybe he or she asks a polite ‘How are you today?’ but you’re not having a good day. Youmay decide to be honest, but refuse to answer or speak about your problems whit someone who is not interested in them won’t help anyone. Actually, answer ‘Fine, thanks, and you?’ it’s the nicer thingto do.

Another case: a friend asks you something uncomfortable to answer: ‘Do you think I sing well?’ Of course, you are not going to say ‘No, you’re the worst singer in the world’, that would bejust cruel. You can comfort him whit a white lie, but instead you don’t feel happy answering that, he wants to know your opinion, and lie in order to not to have a rough time won’t be unfair andselfish. But, what if that friend calls and asks if we want go to the cinema with him, and you don’t feel like at all? There are be friends who would understand that, but others would feel at least a littlediminished. Personally, I would try to be the more truthful I was able, because I think that the truth is valuable, I value it so much, and I appreciate when someone else is honest with me, but thisis my personal point of view.

In conclusion, I think that lie it’s always wrong, but that there are some special occasions when being truthful would be worst, if you don’t find a better solution.So I think white lies are ‘neutral lies’: not the best solution but sometimes the only acceptable.
