Acting Vs. Lying

Is Acting just a big, fat lie?
Through out the years, acting has become a more accessible and desirable profession. It tends to give either pleasing or destructive results, due to the fact that, inbeing an actor, one is putting oneself on the spotlight, where one can be adored or devoured by the media and public. When actors do their jobs, they put on a show. They pretend to be someone they arenot and they say things that are not truth, similar to lying, and here is where the debate lies: is acting just a ramification of lying?
To be sure, acting does entail a certain degree of lying.Whether you are acting or lying, in both cases, you are trying to convince an “audience” by conveying feelings that are not real or situations that have not really happened. Both liars and actors wearmany “masks”, adjusting their characters to fit better into the story that has been created. Often times, one hears that actors are fantastic liars, while liars are fantastic actors, and even thoughthe profession does require an actor to lie, making both of them do very similar actions, they are not the same thing.
An actor lies for the sake of it’s character. They distance themselves from whothey truly are to be truthful to the role they are playing in this imagined situation that will make it into the big screens. While acting, the actors impersonate someone different from themselves,making their physicality and their mannerisms their own; behaving, speaking and thinking like their characters would in order for the audience to believe it. On the other hand, a liar tries too hard tohide his or her true self, concealing the truth from others. Basically, the actor lies for others while liars lie for themselves.

Even tough in real life society condemns liars, that same society isthe one that praises actors that have the ability to convince people, effortlessly, of a reality that does not exist. It is ironic how people loathe liars yet they pay money to watch professional...
