Germany. Before my traveling to this country, the only associations this word evoked in me were - war, Nazis, Volkswagen, beer, sausages…So a one- week trip in mid September 2005 around Bavariabecame a revelation. I was impressed, I was amazed, I had discovered much more than I expected to! And fist of all I discovered that Germany’s the land of festivals. Imagine, I witnessed 4 festivals inone week • Weinfest (wine festival) in Bad Neuenahr, Altstadtfest(old town festival) in Nuernberg, Oktoberfest in Munchen and Cattle parade + Village Fair in Alpbachtal!

Yes, they know in Germanyhow to have fun • I loved their food, their beer, live music and dances.

Germans not only eat and drink at their festivals they do sing and dance! And Oktoberfest is no doubt the pinnacle ofGerman art of having fun! The atmosphere at this world’s biggest folk festival can hardly be compared with anything else! Don’t forget to reserve a table well in advance if you want to sit inside one ofthe large tents. Otherwise you’ll have to drink your beer standing or sitting outside in the sun. By the way if you expect to see those pretty full-breasted  Oktoberfest witresses that you see in adsI'm afraid you'll be disappointed (at least I was). Probably carrying beer mugs is too harmful for the health of young ladies, so waitresses are mostly middle aged women with strong arms and quiteplain appearance. I've found out why the waitresses try to carry as many beer mugs at a time as possible (literally pyramids of beer mugs!)  - the thing is they get 1 euro for every mug sold. So they saythey make small fortunes during the festival))) I imagine they've got to practice during the rest of the year to keep such perfect balance and to carry such heavy stuff!
If you are in Munchen,don’t be lazy and go to the Alps.
