An example, of an alternative fuel is a hybrid vehicle which can have great short term and long term affects on alternative fuel. A hybrid vehicle is a vehicle that uses two distinct powersources to move the vehicle. The two power sources used in hybrid vehicles are an internal combustion engine and one or more electric motors. Hybrid vehicles are improving a lot through theyears because statistics show that every year they are increasing there miles per gallon. The statistics in the fuel economy website show that in 2005 the Toyota Prius ran 46 miles per gallon, theFord Escape ran 27 miles per gallon, and the GMC Sierra ran 16 miles per gallon. Now in 2010 the Toyota Prius runs 50 miles per gallon, the Ford Escape runs 32 miles per gallon, and the GMCSierra runs 21 miles per gallon.
The statistics also show that the hybrid vehicles costs less amount of money every year. In 2005 to drive 25 miles in a Toyota Prius it would cost $1.51, todrive a Ford Escape was $2.57, and to drive a GMC Sierra it was $4.34. Now in 2010 to drive 25 miles in a Toyota Prius it costs $1.39, to drive a Ford Escape its $2.17, and to drive a GMCSierra its $3.31. The overall annual fuel cost in 2005 for the Toyota Prius was $905, for the Ford Escape it was $1,543, and for the GMC Sierra it was $2,606. The overall annual fuel cost in 2010for the Toyota Prius is $834, for the Ford Escape its $1,305, and for the GMC Sierra its $1,985.
These statistics show that all hybrid vehicles are improving a lot every year. Hybrid vehiclesare using less gasoline than normal vehicles. It’s also costing less money than normal vehicles. That is just a short term affect of hybrid vehicles and the long term affect is that in thefuture hybrid vehicles are going to have more miles per gallon than now. Having a hybrid vehicle is better than normal vehicles because its using up less gasoline and its costing less money.
