Animal Extinction Speech

Good morning.  My name is ................................................ and I am going to answer the following questions: How does animal extinction affect the environment? And how does thisinfluence the man made environment?
 
Let's start with the first one. Here we have to take into consideration some of the reasons why several species are becoming endangered: global warming, urbanexpansion and deforestation. All these cause a change in their environment, producing habitats destruction, which induces animal extinction. Animal extinction makes the environment change even more,producing an unbalanced ecosystem cycle.
 
In nature, anything depends on everything, like a chain: if one link goes missing, the entire environment is harmed. Our ecosystem needs biodiversity for itssurvival. For instance, we all know that lions eat zebras and buffalos, while zebras and buffalos eat grass, and, when they die, their bodies fertilize the grass, making a balanced cycle. But, what wouldhappen if lions were extinct. Buffalos and zebras would not be hunted anymore. These would generate an overpopulation of them. As a consequence, the grass and the ecosystem would not be able tosupport the demand from buffalos and zebras. This would affect the food pyramid. That means there won’t be enough food to support all of them, generating an imbalance in the cycle. All these would produce achange in the natural environment, like desertification.
 
A real example of an animal extinction is Dodo, a silly flightless bird. They’ve been extinct since the middle17th Century, because theywere over-hunted by human settlers and the introduced predators such as the dogs.
 
Now, let’s move on to the second question: How does animal extinction influence the man made environment? Theanswer is simple; plagues. A real example is what it is happening in Chile.
