“Animalism: The attempt against inequality”

The Declaration of Independence of the United States of America states that “all men are created equal.” However, we all have the freedom to think and do as we like, generating the different opinions and/or thoughts that one personally has. Politics have always generated controversy because of the many different thoughts, movements, and ideas thatare found in them. As time has gone by, new radical and different political movements appear, and one of the most important ones was, is, and has been socialism. Joseph Stalin made Socialism and what is also called “Stalinism” the style of government present in the Soviet Union, generating an impressive impact on society. Due to the fact that this was a different style and a very drastic change, itwas very complicated to keep such a system running. George Orwell was a British writer very interested in politics, and author of very recognized texts, among which we highlight “Animal Farm.” What Orwell basically did in his book was to create the story of a group of animals led by a pig named Napoleon showing their fight to take over the animal farm. The most important characters played theroles of important socialist leaders among which we highlight Napoleon (Stalin), Snowball (Trotsky), and Old Major (Marx and Lenin) among others.

Socialism is defined as “A political and economic theory of that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.” These ideals intend to create a greater equality supposedlyavoiding stratification, or the accumulation of capital by ones while other just become poorer. One of the flaws to a socialist government is that the human behavior and tendency is directed to the establishment of a social stratus, even under a government that seeks for total equality.

Orwell’s book begins in an organization in which all of the animals work together with one main purpose, whichis taking over the farm and getting rid of the humans. In order to do so, they are obligated to follow a certain scheme that is constantly changing. In the novel, just like everywhere, power is distributed in everything and is therefore the first sign and demonstration that such thing as total equality doesn’t exist. Once Mr. Jones has been get rid off, the “totalitarian controller” is no longerpresent. However, roles are redistributed with the happenings, and a different class division begins to exist in the farm. With the completion of the windmill and many other things taking place among the animals, intelligence and strength or the capacity of physical work begins to be the system of division ruling. Pigs which were the most intelligent ones, not only began using their capacity foreveryone’s benefit, but began to manipulate their companions for their one benefit. This is the perfect example to show how behavior and corruption in one way or another affects society and is an important factor in the avoidance of total equality.

Men are of a complexity that one could never imagine. Their capacities and ways of being are something that will never be analyzed perfectly, andwill never be understood. We were all made differently which is why there is an indescribable amount of variations in our behaviors. Political ideas, just like any personal thought, show how we differ from each other, but unfortunately generate discomfort and trouble because at times, people don’t respect what others think. The Soviet Union and George Orwell’s “Animal Farm” are only examples of apolitical idea with an in depth focus, that makes everything perfectly clear to the reader.

Personally, I believe that what the characters in the book are looking for, and what socialists pretend to do is nonsense because their system isn’t well thought through. Equality would be excellent.
