Anorexia Nervosa is most likely known as an eating and psychological disorder. The word anorexia itself means “lack of appetite”. This disease is characterized by abnormal eating behaviors and severeweight loss. People who have this disease tend to have fear of gaining weight and refuse to maintain a healthy body. In anorexia, a person is obsessed by thoughts of a “perfect” thinness image andhas an absolute fear of becoming obese. This occurs by starvation and excessive exercise and can result in death. Anorexia represents one percent of the most prevalent eating disorder diseases. Thereis more than one definition of anorexia nervosa; however they all describe the same problem.
Approximately 95% of the people affected by this disease are females, teenage girls and sometimes men.Regularly Anorexia nervosa begins to manifest in the adolescence but is also seen in adults and children. It has been estimated that around the world out of 100 adolescent girls, this disease affectsone. There is a high rate of reported child sexual abuse experiences in clinical groups of who have been diagnosed with anorexia. The connection between eating disorders and abuse has been connectedaccording to evidence by a number of studies.
There are many signs and symptoms that manifest once the disease is present. The common signs of anorexia usually are obvious rapid weight loss, obsessionwith calories and fat content, fear of gaining weight or becoming over weight, etc. The majority of the women or sometimes men, who are affected, show these signs and symptoms. Depending on the severityof the case, these sign can be more apparent and rapidly reflected.
The people who are diagnosed with anorexia nervosa usually cant accept that he or she have it. Usually a patient is diagnosedonce the signs and symptoms start to appear. The process of acceptance takes a while for the patient to understand that he or she needs to seek professional help.
