DÍA DEL AÑO NUEVO (Ros Hasana)
También recibe el nombre de Iom Terua. Se celebra durante el mes de Tishrei 1 (30 Septiembre-1 Octubre 2008). Conmemora la creación del mundo por parte de Dios. En el calendario occidental cae entre septiembre y octubre. Ese día se hace sonar un cuerno de carnero (el shofar) en la sinagoga para recordar al pueblo que vuelva a Dios. Los diez días que les siguenlos dedican al arrepentimiento y el autoexamen. Se festeja en el templo, se lee el relato del sacrificio de Isaac (Génesis 22) y también en los hogares.
DÍA DEL PERDÓN (Yom Kippur)
El día del gran perdón que sigue al Año Nuevo, es cuando culmina el periodo de arrepentimiento de 10 días. Es considerado el día más sagrado del calendario judío. Es día completo de ayuno, se inicia la nocheanterior. Se celebra durante el mes de Tishrei 10 (9 Octubre de 2008).
FIESTA DE LOS TABERNÁCULOS O DE LAS TIENDAS (Sukkot)
Conmemora la travesía del desierto tras la huída de Egipto. Dura una semana, y celebra como Dios proveyó a su pueblo de agua y alimento (el maná caído del cielo) durante los cuarenta años que duró la travesía. Es una celebración muy alegre y se construyen cabañas (tiendas otabernáculos) para habitar durante los ocho días que dura la fiesta. Se celebra durante el mes de Tishrei 15 (14 al 20 Octubre 2008).
FIESTA DEL SÁBADO (Sabbatt)
El comienzo del sábado, a la caída del sol en la tarde del viernes, está señalado por el encendido y bendición de las candelas hecha por la madre. El padre asiste a la sinagoga con sus hijos y, a su vuelta, los bendice y alaba a su mujer conpalabras de la Biblia (libro de los Proverbios 31). La familia consume junta y con gozo una comida que comienza con la bendición del pan y del vino. El pan es una masa especial llamada challah, normalmente se consumen dos panes en memoria de la doble porción de maná caído en el desierto.
No se permite ningún tipo de trabajo en sábado, no se puede encender ningún fuego, si bien se puede mantenervivo el fuego encendido antes.
FIESTA DEL REGOCIJO DE LA LEY (Simchat Torá)
En este día se completa la lectura anual de la Torá con la lectura de los últimos versículos del libro Deuteronomio, y se vuelve a iniciar la lectura con los primeros pasajes del Génesis. Se celebra durante el mes Tishrei 23 (22 Octubre 2008).
