Session 1:
“Our funny body”

Session 1: “Our funny body”

1. Objectives: Objective 1.To help children understand body part names and locations. Objective 2.To realize the existence of symmetries and asymmetries in our bodies. Objective 3.To recognize the possibilities of movement at the various joints. Objective 4.To introduce children to basic habits of body care and welfare,and gradually acquiring a conception of the body as a source of feelings, communication and pleasure. 2. Age: 6-8 years. 3. Contents: Warm up (10 minutes):  I am your teacher  The Pac-man Main Part: (25 minutes):  The Hokey Pokey song.  The body theatre  Build Peter  The mirror Cool down: (10 minutes):  Feel the little ball 4. Equipment: Cassette, music, paper dolls, scarves. 5. Place: gym,main court. 6. Methodology: Direct instruction and assignments: activities will be developed with the participation of every student in the class at the same time and organized as the activity requires (individually, in pairs or in groups of three, four or so). Encourage participation and interaction. 7. Duration: 45 minutes.

SESSION DEVELOPMENT: Warm up:Activity Nº1: “I am your teacher”:        Specific objective: know aspects and key parts of our body. Equipment: none. Intensity: low. Description: One student is chosen by the teacher to be the leader or “teacher” of the group. The rest of the students have to make a circle and follow the rules of the leader. He/she have to move any part of his/her body. Rules: Not to run, don’t speak, payattention to the leader. Variants: Do the same movements following the rhythm of the music. Time: 4 minutes. Spatial arrangement: In a circle.

Activity Nº2: “The Pac man”:    Specific objective: Warm up, have fun, make them feel confident and get the children focused Equipment: none. Intensity: medium. Description: In this game one kid has to be the Pac-man and the rest have to avoid him. Itconsists of walking along the painted lines on the floor to avoid being trapped by him. None of them can turn around or go outside the lines but when two of them meet along the way they have to turn around and continue the same way they came from. The child who gets caught becomes the new Pac-man. Rules: Not to run, go outside the lines or turn around unless you meet someone along the way.Variants: When the teacher claps his/her hands, they have to jump. Time: 6 minutes. Spatial arrangement: In half of the court.

Main part: Activity Nº3: “The Hokey Pokey song.”  

Specific objective: To put into practice the explanation made before and make them follow the rhythm of the music and coordinate their movements Equipment: Cassette and music. Intensity: medium.Description: Make a circle, sing the Hokey Pokey song and follow its instructions dancing to it.( see the lyrics on the appendix) Rules: Everybody has to sing and dance. They cannot shout. Variants: Play the song first without doing anything in order to learn it and then with all the movements. Time: 9 minutes. Spatial arrangement: A circle

Activity Nº 4: “The body theatre.”  Specific objective:To recognize the possibilities of movement at the various joints.  Equipment: None. Intensity: medium

Description: Divide the children in groups of five or six of them and tell them to build with their bodies different shapes like for example numbers. Rules: They cannot use anything else but their bodies Variants: Make shapes of numbers in groupsand of animals individually. Time: 7 minutes. Spatial arrangement: Half of the court
