Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States. Best known for freeing the slaves in America, he is generally regarded by historians as one of thebest leaders the nation ever has had.
Daniela:
He had a passion for politics and was able to lead the country through the harshness of the Civil War. He was elected to asecond term as President, but just days after the war ended, he was assassinated. On 15 April 1865, he died.
Chori:
He was supportive of business and free enterprise, buthis background of poverty made him sympathetic to the difficulties laborers encountered. He believed strongly in the Constitution, especially in his early years.

Throughout the conflict, Lincoln took full advantage of his political and constitutional powers. As the war progressed, PresidentLincoln employed various strategies to try to gain an advantage. The President proposed an amendment to the constitution that would ban slavery in every state.

Oncedrafted, the amendment initially failed to pass Congress, but on the second try, it was adopted on 31 January 1865. Almost a full year later, on 6 December 1865, theThirteenth Amendment was ratified, and slavery in America was officially over.

Why was Abraham Lincoln important?
He is a great part of history because he helped a lot tofree slaves in the United States. He freed the slaves which was a big win for equality and freedom.

He also wrote a very important document called theEmancipation Proclamation which stated that slaves should be freed.
Chori:
Abraham Lincoln let slaves become free in 1866 and was the first president to lead the country into war.
