The novel Cambridge is very similar to Equiano’s narrative. Since the beginning of this part of the novel we immediately detect some similarity between Cambridge and Equiano’s narrative . Both ofthem were forcibly taken from their native home into a cruel unknown world, were they were abused, and mistreated. They both experience incredible fear when they arrived in the hands of these whitepeople, and both of them at one point believe they were going to be eaten, Cambridge states: “I wondered constantly if these men of no colour, with their loose hair and decayed teeth, were not trulyintent upon cooking and eating us…” (Cambridge135) and Equiano states in his narrative, “I asked them if we were not to be eaten by those white men with horrible looks, red faces, and loose hair.”(Equiano 65). They were taken away from their family and friends at an early age, they both witnessed the cruelties of the slave ship, and both of them witnessed people of their own kind die of hunger orsickness, as Cambridge says: “ In this time many died where they lay, some on top of others, until the whole scene became one of inconceivable horror” (Cambridge 138) and Equiano says: “ The shrieks ofthe women, and the groans of the dying, rendered the whole a scene of horror almost inconceivable” ( Equiano 67). I believe that Equiano and Cambridge are...
