Express: Ability

I know how to do it (some activity)
It’s possible for me to do it.

• I can play the piano. My brother can play the piano too.
• Sarahcan speak Italian, but she can’t speak Spanish.

For the PAST (yesterday / last week) we use Could or Couldn’t

• When I was young, I could run very fast.
• I was tired last night, but ICouldn’t sleep.

Tips:
✓ Use can or can’t plus the base form of a verb.
✓ Can doesn’t have S in the third person singular form.
✓ Never use to immediately after Can. (don’t say: I can’t tohelp you)
