I had posted something in youtube and got a reply froma blogger, Mark, who forwarded me to this http://itsthecat.com/blog/?p=3178 which is his nerd site about early cartoon history. The LA Times had a "Junior" Times Cartooning contest, and itappears that our Manuel was a shining star in the contest, a part of "the club." You only have to scroll down to the third group of comic strips, right under the larger "Capt Kidd" one (not byPapacito). You can click your cursor on each strip and it will blow up to full size. After you read it, click the BACK button, and it will return you to the strips and you can see each one. In the textUNDER the strips, Mark wrote some stuff about Manuel and the other young cartoonists. The I'll leave it to you to determine what the heck is going on in these strips, as far as "Is this evenfunny?" but regardless, I hope it brings "a smile with your coffee" which is what the Times copy here says was the point of the whole cartoon contest thingy.... I guess he was about 22 years old atthis point, in 1924? My questions are: Where was Papacito living in 1924? Wasn't a Dad yet, I know. I think they got married in the late 20's?? Were they even living in L.A. yet? I hope these weresome of the cartoons he sent from Nacozari, Sonora, Mex.!
