Cell Phone
“I better not EVER see that darn thing out when I am trying to have a conversation with you.” My mother spoke these wordsto me a few weeks after I had gotten my first cell phone. Let me just say, my mom can get quite scary so when she gives me a demand… I listen. Ever since then, I have always tried tokeep my phone out of sight when I am with another person. Of course I do slip up as most kids my age do, but I make sure to NEVER have my phone out when I am having a meal with anotherperson or more than one person. In fact, that is actually one of my biggest pet peeves in the entire world. I think it is extremely rude and normally I want to punch people in theface when they text during lunch/dinner.
I normally am very good about not taking my cell phone out, but like I said before, I do slip up. So on Wednesday, I left my phone in my roomfor the whole day. I checked it whenever I was in my room alone, but I didn’t take it with me to class, lunch, or dinner. I didn’t have a very hard time at all, but that must bebecause my mother pounded the “no-texting-in-front-of-me” rule into my head.
My friend, whose name I will keep anonymous, is an avidI’m-going-to-text-during-lunch-in-lang-and-ignore-you-when-you-speak type of friend. Don’t get me wrong, I love her to death and she is a good friend to have around! She is ALWAYS texting, however. I will be mid-sentence and her phonewill go off and she’ll immediately begin texting away on her phone and won’t even respond to me with any more of a “mhmm” or an “oh yeah.” It is infuriating to say the least. Anytimesomeone mentions it to her, she just shakes it off and acts like it’s not a big deal. I might snap one day and start screaming… but I don’t think that will help anything. Oh well.
