Chemistry, Density
1.- MATTER. PROPERTIES Matter is definedas anything that has mass and occupies a space (volume). Material System is a part of matter that we aisolate to study. Substance is any kind of matter. Properties of Matter Properties of matter canbe divided in two ways: Extensive/Intensive Extensive properties depend on the amount of matter that is being measured. These include mass and volume. Physical/Chemical Physical properties can bemeasured without changing the chemical identity. The freezing point of a substance is physical. When water freezes, it's still H2O.
Intensive properties do not depend on the amount of matter. Theseproperties allow us to identify a substance. These include density, conductivity, boiling temperature…..
Chemical properties deal with how one chemical reacts with another. We know that wood isflammable because it becomes heat, ash, and carbon dioxide when heated in the presence of oxygen.

2.- MASS AND VOLUME They are generalproperties of matter. Mass is the amount of matter in an object and it never changes unless matter is taken out of the object. To measure mass we use a balance or scale. The unit we use in the S.I.is kg (kilogram)
Volume is the amount of space that an object occupies. You can find an object's volume by measuring : OBJECT VOLUME OBJECT
cube
V = length3
prism
V = length· width·height
sphere
V = 4/3 π R3
cylinder
V = π R2 H
For measuring the volume of a liquid we can use:
Pipette
Volumetric flask Graduated cylinder
For irregular shapedly objects, you canuse a graduated cylinder.
Liters and milliliters are used to measure the volume of liquids, while cubic centimeters are used to measure solids, but in the S.I. we use cubic meters Remember : 1...
