RESUMEN
En el presente artículo se hará una reflexión sobre el modo en que la ciudad se materializa en el arte por medio de su representación fílmica, pictórica y musical, tresdisciplinas distintas que pueden convivir en un único soporte como en la película tomada
de modelo de análisis, Chico & Rita. La primera parte del artículo se destina a resumir
el marco histórico en el que se desarrolla el argumento de la película poniendo en
antecedentes al lector sobre la situación que se acontecía en las dos localizaciones
principales, La Habana y Nueva York, durante los años 40 y50 del pasado siglo. En
esta primera parte también se hará un análisis del cine y la arquitectura en general y
se elabora una pequeña biografía de los tres artistas de renombre que participan en la
elaboración del film, Fernando Trueba, Javier Mariscal y Bebo Valdés. La segunda parte se centra en el análisis de Chico & Rita por medio de dos metodologías: la primera
consiste en un análisisdescriptivo de la película escogiendo aquellas secuencias que
son más relevantes para el desarrollo de esta investigación y en las que se muestra
cómo el film escogido ha sabido aunar los tres artes mencionados anteriormente para
la construcción de las ciudades de La Habana y Nueva York. La segunda consiste en un
análisis comparativo de esas dos ciudades generadas por medio de la animación consus respectivas ciudades en la realidad. En definitiva, el objetivo principal del artículo
es realizar junto a los lectores un viaje al pasado analizando el arte que conforma las
ciudades de La Habana y Nueva York para después regresar al presente y mostrar
cómo esas ciudades pueden convertirse en parte del arte contemporáneo. Es el arte en

ABSTRACT
In this paper how the city is embodied in the arts of cinema, painting and music will be
discussed. Three disciplines that can coexist on a single support as in Chico & Rita. The
first part of the articleis intended to summarize the historical context in which it develops the plot of the movie putting in antecedents on the situation that was happening in the two main locations, Havana and New York, during the 40's and 50’s of
the last century. In this first part will also be a study of film and architecture in general
and will include a brief biography of three famous artists involved in themaking of the
film: Fernando Trueba, Javier Mariscal y Bebo Valdés. The second part is dedicated to
the analysis of Chico & Rita by two methods: the first is a descriptive analysis of the
film with the selection those sequences that are most relevant to the development of
this research. The second is a comparative analysis of this cities made with animation,
with their respective cities inreality. In short, the main objective of the article is to
make a trip into the past looking the art that makes up the cities of Havana and New
York and after, returning to the present and show how these cities can become part of
contemporary art. It is the art in the city and the city in art.
