2. Themes:

This a mystery story about a perfect plan of killing.

The author uses deep descriptions abouteverything; above all, about the feelings on the man’s mind and the sounds on it, to makes you feel the same stressful sensation.

The two principal themes in this short tale is the madness of the principal character and the murder.

3. Characters:

The principal character of this story is the narrator of it. The man who is going to kill the old man, the man who fells that the oldman should dead, the man who is mad.

The author describes every step that the narrator gives to kill the old man. It is very descriptive style.

He talks about areal events, no about abstracts ones. In spite of he tells us about madness.

He uses lots of adverbs (dreadfully, wisely, cunningly, slowly, cautiously), sensations (mad, nervous, pain), comparisons (like the thread of the spider, such as a watch makes when enveloped in cotton).

Sometimes he uses oral expressions (oh God!, no, no!)

The Nightingale and the Rose by Oscar Wilde

1. Summary:

This story talks about Love. It is the story of real friend (the Nightingale) and the student, who is falling in lovewith a girl. He needs a red rose, this way he could dance with her: “She said that she would dance with me if I brought her red roses”

The Nightingale try to get the red rose for the student, who is crying for her. Finally, the Nightingale got the rose, but instead, lost his life.

2. Themes:

The most important theme in the story is Love. The meaningof Nightingale understands it, not the way that people in the story understand it.

Another theme could be the friendship, how the Nightingale gives his life for the student’s happiness.

This is a story to think about. We have to mention the theme that the student is not able to understand what the Nightingale is saying to him, he only understand what is writing in books: “TheStudent looked up from the grass, and listened, but he could not understand what the Nightingale was saying to him, for he only knew the things that are written down in books” for example, the logic or philosophy.

3. Characters:

The principal character is the Nightingale who moves to get the rose. He thinks that the most important thing in life is Love.

Anotherimportant character, on which one the story revolves, is the student.

As secondary characters, I have to mention the professor’s daughter, the girl who the student loved. She is a material girl who only gives value to the jewelry and not to the rose

And finally, the three elements of nature, the Daisy, the Lizard and the Butterfly. They think that he is ridiculous.
