“Natural resources of North Korea and South Korea”
South Korea has few natural resources. The main are coal, iron ore and graphite. It also has silver, copper, lead, uranium and tungsten, hasthe potential to generate hydroelectric power.
Moreover it is a country with scarce resources for agriculture and livestock, so it must import most of its food products.
The Korean economywas dominated by agriculture and mining and manufacturing was simple. Today dominates the manufacturing sector chemical industry and electronics and automobile manufacturing and heavy electricalequipment. Exports over 40% of GDP and manufactured goods account for 90% of total exports. They began exporting wigs, textiles and lumber to pass footwear, steel, ships, and electronics.

The main mineral resources include molybdenum, magnesite, graphite, barite, mica, fluorspar, silver, iron, lead, zinc, aluminum, coal, etc. Numerous geological layersformed between Archeozoic and Cenozoic eras, and the frequent diastrophism North Korea endowed with abundant mineral resources.
Lead and zinc are the principal exports of North Korea. Some of themost important mines are Gumduk mines, located in the region of Danchon in South Hamgyung Province, Yang Gangdos mines and 20 more. Almost half the world's reserves of magnesite is located in NorthKorea, especially in the vicinity of the County of Danchon.
Coal, one of the key energy resources of North Korea, is deposited in large quantities throughout the country. A significant partof this coal is anthracite. Bituminous coal reserves are located mainly in the regions of the province Aoji Hamgyung North and Anju in South Pyongan Province.
Although there is speculation thatNorth Korea possesses oil reserves underground, profitability should be further analyzed. The foreign oil companies were numerous, but fruitless, explorations to develop oil fields in North Korea.
