Speaking of community we refer to: a social group, dynamic, historical and culturally formed and developed, existed before the presence of researchers or social interveners, shares interests, goals, needs and problems, in acertain space and time and generates collective identity and organizational forms, developing and using resources to achieve their goals.
The term community carries a senseof responsibility and independent action that characterize this organizational form but also can operate within the borders of other forms of organization. It refers toa sustained communication with a small group, but with strong similarities more localized in small territorial spaces. These human groups are not free of tensions andfrictions. It is hard to imagine a community where there is no tension as a result of the division of labor, for example resulting in the formation of an ideal type ofbureaucracy.
Community work is not just work for the community and in the community, it’s a process of transformation from the community, dreamed, planned, conducted andevaluated by the community. Its objectives are to enhance the strength and community action to achieve a better quality of life for its people and conquer new goals.
