CONICYT RESEARCH SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAM AT UQ
FOR CHILEAN ENGINEERING STUDENTS
The University of Queensland (UQ) in Australia and the Comisión Nacional de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica (CONICYT) in Chile are offering an excitingopportunity for Chilean engineering students to undertake a Research Skills Training Program at UQ, one of the world’s leading research institutes. CONICYT and UQ have previously partnered to deliver a similar program in 2012 for 14 Chilean engineering students. Based on the success of this inaugural program, the opportunity for more students to travel to Australia to undertake training is beingoffered again in 2013.

PROGRAM OUTLINE
During this eight-week program you will: • Undertake a hands-on, practical research project with a UQ mentor • Develop English language and communication skills for academic and research purposes • Learn about research projects and research training at UQ through site visits to world-class research institutes and real-world industry projects • Learn aboutthe research commercialisation process and the importance of industry engagement The Research Skills Training Program brings together expertise from across UQ including its Institute of Continuing & TESOL Education (ICTE-UQ), Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology (EAIT), Graduate School, Business School, and the University’s research commercialisation entity UniQuest. Itincludes the following components: English for Academic & Research Communication (EARC) Training The EARC program will enhance your English language skills for academic and research purposes and help you to communicate effectively during your program in Australia. At the conclusion of the program, you will undertake an IELTS test which can be used for admission to further study/research inEnglish-speaking institutions globally. Research Training The research training program component will give you a chance to experience what studying and working in a research intensive environment is all about. You will be matched with an EAIT Faculty academic mentor and immersed in a real-life research group to carry out a mini-research project of your own. At the end of the program, you will have theopportunity to share your research findings by presenting at a mini-research conference and poster session with your colleagues. This program element also includes a series of practical research skills training seminars and workshops facilitated by the UQ Graduate School. Research Commercialisation Training The UQ Business School in collaboration with UniQuest, Australia’s leading researchcommercialisation company, will provide the Research Commercialisation Training component of the program. You will undertake a series of seminars and training workshops that examine the fundamental components of the commercialisation process and the contribution of commercialisation to economic and social development. Site Visits You will be able to see behind the scenes of some of UQ’s world-classresearch institutes and visit large-scale engineering projects on campus and in Brisbane.
