After the horrible times in Europe,a new era was born. The Renaissance, meaning the “re-birth” of Europe, was taken place between 1350 and 1550. During this time, Europe retook the Greek ideas, which led to the spread of new ideas andthe creation of inventions, such as the printing press. During the first half of the fifteen century, the Catholic Church was affected by the humanists, such as Desiderious Erasmus, Martin Luther, andhis followers. What allowed these reformations? The political instability and economic crisis.
The Catholic Church has always been the supreme religion of the world since Constantine’s reign. Thechurch first started having problems; Catholics were being persecuted and killed. After that the Church gained a lot of power, where the people were unhappy. The Catholic Church was the one that atfirst controlled most of the communities and were the ones and the top of the social classes pyramid.
During the Renaissance, the Church was trying to recover what it lost. In this time, severalhumanists were attacking the Church. New philosophies were developed, but the strongest was the one led by Martin Luther. Martin Luther was a monk who was willing a reformation for the Catholic Church. Hewrote 95 theses stating that the Parish priest lack knowledge of the spiritual duties; he expressed his disapproval of the indulgence and the salvation. Many people feared their entrance to Heaven, sothey bought indulgences.
