CREATIVE CITIES
The new concept in the economic developing
MGR. ALEJANDRO GARCÍA CHAPARRO EUBA 2012 ABSTRAC Cities and regions are increasingly playing a vital role in generating creativity for economic and social development: they are a hub for entrepreneurs and cultural actors, they form the basis for creative clusters, and they have the adequate size to generate local, regional andinternational synergies for creativity. “Creative Economy” and “Creative industries” are concepts that are increasingly linked to cities and regions, as they have potential for wealth and job creation

Whether big, medium or small, Creative territories can bring groups together, and engender economies of scale, information flows, the exchange of ideas, the concentration of capital, proximity to jobs andemployment opportunities. They encourage imagination, participation and innovation, and they can generate new ideas and broaden the potential solutions to the challenges they face. INTRODUCTION Many of the challenges and opportunities that are coming to define the early part of the 21st century are at their most visible in the cities in which a growing proportion of the world‟s population nowlives. We are now in the creative age a time when the generation of economic value in a growing number of sectors depends directly on the ability of firms to embed creativity and cultural content within the goods and services they produce. Familiar goods such as clothing, furniture, and food products depend on creative and cultural content for their competitive success, and consumers are willing topay higher prices for products that are

Not only does the generation of economic value flow from this creativeeconomy, but the people who work in creative occupations and industries are themselves drawn to places that offer a critical mass of creative and cultural activity, broadly defined. These are places where the arts flourish, with vibrant and lively local scenes in music, literature, theatre, and visual arts. They are cities that host cultural traditions from around the world. They welcome newcomersfrom a variety of ethnic, racial, religious, and national origins, and provide opportunities for their easy social and economic integration. They are also places that enshrine freedom of cultural expression, places that nurture the creative act CREATIVE CITIES CONNECTIONS The creative city enables a series of connections. Connections between people and their spaces, which is very much linked tocity identities and essence, to the understanding of the past to build the future, to “enable inhabitants to become reconciled, to take ownership of the history of their city and rediscover its spaces”1. Connections between the city and the world, as the creative city has “a regional, territorial capacity to find solutions to environmental problems for the world“ . Putting together economic andsocial actors, “it is a double dynamic that is established between spaces and persons, between the city‟s agents” Before jump into the creative cities theory, it may be useful to clarify the creative economy concept implied here, once historically economic systems nourish and change the urban shape and scene. After all, at the very heart of economics lie human relations people‟s expectations, choices...
