Eddie Guerrero; Anabolic

Eddie Guerrero was a great Hispanic wrestler. His father and brothers were also wrestlers, two of whom were successful, as well as the father. He also had famous wrestler cousins. Eddie had been wrestling since 1989. He gained popularity when he won the Extreme Championship Wrestling TV title against Dean Simon (aka Dean Malenko). When Eddie came to the WWE, heimmediately gained fame when he became part of the Radicalz with Perry Saturn, Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit. In recent years he and his nephew Chavo, Jr. began a tag team, Los Guerreros. On November 13, 2005, Guerrero died in his hotel room, and he was 38 years old.

History

The first solid experiments in the area of Anabolics took place in the 1800’s, a lot of animal experiments were published.These studies laid the foundation for the modern field of endocrinology (study of hormones), and when the century ended cientists made the first experimental androgen injections.
Chemists synthesized the structure of testosterone in the 1930’s. Two other naturally occurring steroids, dihydrotestosterone and nandrolone were synthesized in the first years of the development of the steroids. Theydiscoveres that androgenic, estrogenic and anabolic activity of steroids can be adjusted by altering their molecular structure. Researchers started wanting to make steroids with strong anabolic activity because it lessens side effects.
In 1950’s non of the thousand testosterone, nandrolone and DHT analogues produced were purely anabolic compounds, it was because they didn’t understand correctly thetestosterone’s actions. Then they made a theory in which one receptor site would responde only to testosterone, while the other is activated specifically by the metabolite DHT.

What are Anabolic Steroids

Anabolic steroids are synthetic substances that mimic the male sex hormones known as androgens. This is where the true name anabolic-androgenic steroid is derived, but for familiaritypurposes they are referred to only as anabolic steroids. They are made to act as male hormone testosterone. Testosterone has a 17-carbon core and makes skeletal muscles grow and the development of male sexual characteristics. It has both androgenic (masculinization) and anabolic (tissue-building) effects in the human body. Testosterone increases numbers of red blood cells, growing of muscles, more hairin body, thick vocal chords, growing of the prostate gland. Anabolic steroids work to treat conditions in men like hypogonadism (when testes do not produce enough testosterone for normal growth, development and sexual functioning), some instances of impotency, and HIV and other infectious diseases. Scientists found in lab animals that anabolic steroids could facilitate the growth of skeletalmuscles and with this is where the weight lifters and athletes come in to play. There are more than 100 anabolic steroids and a lot are illegal.


Mechanism of action


The pharmacodynamics of anabolic steroids are unlike peptide hormones. Water-soluble peptide hormones cannot penetrate the fatty cell membrane and only indirectly affect thenucleus of target cells through their interaction with thecell’s surface receptors. However, as fat-soluble hormones, anabolic steroids are membrane-permeable and influence the nucleus of cells by direct action. The pharmacodynamic action of anabolic steroids begin when the exogenous hormone penetrates the membrane of the target cell and binds to an androgen receptor located in the cytoplasm of that cell.
