Eltérmino anorexia tiene su origen en la lengua griega y, estando formado por dos vocablos: a/an (una negación) y orégo (“apetecer”), significa falta de apetito. Sin embargo, más que la apetencia o no de alimento, más que el hambre o no, parece ajustarse más a la realidad de este trastorno el intenso miedo a ser gorda. Y digo bien e insisto en “ser gorda”, que no estar gorda, con toda intención. En lamente de una mujer anoréxica ser gorda o delgada es una identidad.
La anorexia nerviosa sigue siendo, para los clínicos, una gran desconocida.
