There is evidence of the presence of surfing for over 500 years in the islands of Polynesia. The English explorer James Cook reached the Hawaiian Islands in 1778.
Moreover in northern Peru, local cultures left traces that show men going up waves. The Huacos are pre-Inca ceramics and one of them clearlyshows a man on a tree or something similar in attitude of surfing a wave. This would indicate that all began in South America, but it was the Polynesians in their constant trips between islands which, some centuries later, the custom of sliding lead waves to places like Hawaii.
Upon contact, the indigenous cultures were suppressed and surfing boom went on to lose. James Cook was later killed bynatives. In the twentieth century the surf was recovered, and the interest of tourists and U.S. military in Hawaii, and the fame of the Olympic Hawaiian Duke Kahanamoku, surfing began to become popular on the coasts of California and Australia, creating a subculture germ in the environments in which they practiced, then spreading to other countries.
This happened in the 50/60. Then the tables werelarge solid wood objects and the surf was a simple practice. Later it was becoming more difficult because of the audacity of pioneers like Oscar Rodriguez, patriarch of modern surfing big waves. There was also an evolution in the stunts and movements, while research into new designs and materials that allow other expressions tables. Currently surfing competition is primarily based on:
researchdesign and materials engineers aeronautics surfers looking for a hydrodynamic optimization of the tables.
current Aussie style evolution (large and energetic movements).
in recent years have included influences of movements of skateboarding and snowboarding sport-based turn-surfing.
In many countries in different continents and the surf was known in the 60s. Currently surfing is practiced in mostof the world, although most buoyant industries tables and accessories are based in Australia, Europe and South America. Among the most popular destinations for travelers practitioners are Australia and Southeast Asia. Variants and techniques of surfing and boardWithin the surf "table", or surf itself, there are two basic categories depending on the size and type:
Shortboard, or short board surfing (between 1.50 and 2.10 meters)
Longboard tables length with equal or superior to 2.75 m. This is the classic surf style (practiced in the decades 50 and 60 is what gave rise to today's Longboards.
We also define categories in terms of the type of wavesSurf to refer generically to the widest range of styles and competitions.
Big wave surfing when the surfer special practice and / or repeatedly over waves of over 2 meters high. (The wave is measured by the size of the tube so it measures the wall of the wave)
There are two variants, the kneeboard which is a short table in which surfs knees, fins, and the cork, foam boards that are softer than theconventional glass fiber, only one meter and in which lying is surfing with fins also in the kneeboard. (help a lot to catch the waves) While kneeboard is increasingly rare, corks because of their lower risk for strokes and quillazos, ease of use and extreme maneuvers that allow a great deal has been popularized
There are a number of basic moves in surfing, which are:
Take Off: The firstmaneuver that make surfers: is when you stop paddling lying on the table and passed to the upright position, ready to slip over the wave. The wave is detached, more for its power by wind.
Bottom Turn: As the name suggests (in English, 'bottom' = down, 'turn' = turn), this maneuver is the first turn after the "take off". Once we drive on the descent of the wave must be turned to get away from the part...
