The presence of foils highlights the various facets of the main character´s personality, and emphasizes thesimilarities between the characters in order to easily appreciate their differences. William Shakespeare often includes these characters to compare and reveal the conflicts of the main character. “The tragedy of Hamlet” is not the exception; Shakespeare uses Young Fortinbras, the prince of Norway as a foil for Hamlet.
