ESTUDIO DE LAS MANIFESTACIONES OCULARES EN PACIENTES CON DIAGNÓSTICO DE ARTRITIS REUMATOIDEA.
OCULAR MANIFESTATIONS IN PATIENTS WITH DIAGNOSIS OF RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS.

RESUMEN
Antecedentes: Las manifestaciones oculares en pacientes con Artritis Reumatoidea son causa frecuente de consulta oftalmológica.
Objetivo: Determinar las manifestaciones oculares en pacientes con diagnóstico de Artritis Reumatoidea.
Método: Estudio longitudinal, prospectivo, descriptivo, con elementos de intervención en el período comprendido desde el 1º de Abril al 1º deSeptiembre de 2006. El universo estuvo constituido por 113 pacientes remitidos del Servicio Provincial de Reumatología a consulta de Córnea del Centro Oftalmológico de Cienfuegos. Los 100 pacientes que cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión conformaron la muestra de estudio. Se utilizaron variables como edad, sexo, tiempo de evolución de la enfermedad, frecuencia de manifestaciones oculares,afecciones oftálmicas, tratamiento médico y evolución clínica. Se confeccionó un formulario de obtención de datos y la información fué procesada empleando el paquete de programas Estadístico EpiInfo y los resultados se expresaron en números absolutos y porciento.
Resultados: Se obtuvo un predominio del sexo femenino (67.0 %) y del grupo etáreo de 51 a 60 años (48.0 %). El 46.0 % de los pacientespresentaba manifestaciones oculares, siendo la Queratoconjuntivitis Seca la afección ocular predominante y más aún en pacientes con más de 5 años de evolución de la enfermedad. El tratamiento tópico de antinflamatorios no esteroideos y sustitutos de las lágrimas fué el más empleado, obteniéndose la mejoría clínica en el 95,7 % de los pacientes al tercer mes de evolución.
Conclusión: Es necesaria laevaluación conjunta de estos pacientes por el Reumatólogo y Oftalmólogo.

ABSTRACT
Antecedents: Ocular manifestations in patients having Rheumatoid Arthritis are the frequent cause of an ophthalmologic consultation.
Objetive: To determin the ocular manifestations in patients with the diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis and their evolutionafter receiving a medical treatment.
Method: A descriptive, longitudinal and prospective study with intervention elements was done from April 1 to September 1, 2006. The universe was composed by 113 patients who were refered from Rheumatological Provincial Service to Córnea consultation of the Ophthalmological Center of Cienfuegos. The sample was formed by 100 patients refered who fulfilled theinclusion criterions. There was study some variables such as age, sex, evolution period of the rheumatoid arthritis, presence of the ocular manifestation, ocular affections, medical treatments used and clinical evolution. A clinical record was elaborated and the information was processed by the EpiInfo program. The results obtained were showed in numbers and percentages.
Results: There was aprevalence in the female sex (67.0%) and from the age of group from 51 to 60 years (48.0%). 46% of the patients had ocular manifestations of Rheumatoid Arthritis and Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca was the ocular affection prevailing and the most frequent in those with more than 5 years of evolution of the disease. The topic treatment of anti-inflammatory non-steroids and the artificial tears substituteswere applied in a greater scale, and there was a clinical improvement in 95.7% of the patients after a three month period of time.
Conclusion: It is necessary to have a joint evaluation of these patients by an Ophthalmologic and Rheumatologist doctor.
