Antecedentes
Despuésdel éxito de Disneyland en Anaheim, California y de Walt Disney World en Lake Buena Vista, Florida, surgieron en 1972 los planes para construir un parque de temática similar en Europa. Bajo la dirección de E. Cardon Walker, se abrió en 1983 Tokio Disneyland, en Japón, con un éxito inmediato, catalizando la extensión internacional.

A finales de 1984, los jefes de la división de parques temáticosde Disney, Dick Nunis y Jim Cora, presentaron una lista de aproximadamente 1.200 localizaciones europeas posibles para el parque.

Hacia marzo de 1985, el número de posibles localizaciones para el parque había sido reducido a cuatro; dos en Francia y dos en España. Ámbos países dieron cuenta del potencial económico y ventajas turísticas de un parque temático Disney y compitieron ofreciendo...
