Family Dispute Resolution
STAGE 1 – EXPLANATION

- welcome, neutral/confidential/voluntary, process, ground rules, commitment to begin/invite, notes, agenda

- 5 mins each only
- no interruptions (use note pad)
- P2 to not respond to P1

STAGE 2- CLARIFICATION

STAGE 3- EXPLORATION
*ventilation of feelings/emotions
*parties to talk toone another
*ask clients what agenda item they want to start with

“I’d now like to talk to each of you alone fora few minutes. As i explained earlier this will be a confidential session and you will be able to speak freely with us if you wish”.
“X, while we’re talking with Y, could we ask you to wait in thewaiting room. We will try not to keep you too long. Then you will have a chance to talk with us. Would you like a tea or coffee while you wait?”

STAGE 4 – NEGOTIATION
