The aim of this paper is to explain all the features about the loss function developed by Genichi Taguchi for that reason is necessary to describe
Brief historical review
Taguchi was born  Tokamachi. He initially studied textile engineering at Kiryu Technical College with the intention of entering the family kimono business. However, afterthe second ward, in 1948, he joined the Ministry of Public Health and Welfare, where he came under the influence of eminent statistician Matosaburo Masuyama. Who kindled his interesting in the desing of experiment.
In 1950, he joined the Electrical Communications Laboratory (ECL) of the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation just as statistical quality control was beginning to becomepopular in Japan, under the influence of W. Edwards Deming and the Japanese Union of Scientists and Engineers.
During the 1950s, he collaborated widely and in 1954-1955 was visiting professor at the Indian Statistical Institute, where he worked with C. R. Rao, Ronald Fisher and Walter A. Shewhart. While working at the SQC Unit of ISI, he was introduced to the orthogonal arraysinvented by C. R. Rao- a topic which was to be instrumental in enabling him to develop the foundation blocks of what is now known as Taguchi methods
On completing his doctorate at Kyushu University in 1962, he left ECL. he left ECL, though he maintained a consulting relationship. In 1964 he became professor of engineering at Aoyama Gakuin University, Tokyo. In 1966 he began a collaboration with Yuin Wu, who lateremigrated to the U.S. and, in 1980, invited Taguchi to lecture. During his visit there, Taguchi himself financed a return to Bell Labs, where his initial teaching had made little enduring impact. This second visit began a collaboration with Madhav Phadke and a growing enthusiasm for his methodology in Bell Labs and elsewhere, including Ford Motor Company, Boeing, Xerox and ITT.
Since 1982, GenichiTaguchi has been an advisor to the Japanese Standards Institute and executive director of the American Supplier Institute, an international consulting organization.
His most important contribution has been the combination of statistical methods and engineering to achieve rapid improvements in cost and quality by optimizing product design and manufacturing processes. Dr. Taguchi has provided theloss function and the S / N ratio, which assess the functionality of the product during the early stages of development, when we still have time to make improvements at minimum cost.
In addition to the rapid improvement of product and process design, Dr. Taguchi methods provide a common language and approach that improves the integration of product design and manufacturing processes. The trainingof design engineers and manufacturing personnel in these methods provides perspectives and common goals (a big step forward to break down the traditional barriers between these two groups).
Will expand on the inssue of the loss function.
The Taguchi Loss Function
Taguchi suggests that every process have a target value and that as the product moves away from target value, there's a loss incurredby society. This loss may involve delay, waste, scrap, or rework. Look at the control chart above. Sure, the product fits within the specification limits, but as you can see, the customer might have to reset their production machines several times to accomodate the changes in specifications. Loss
Genichi Taguchi, established by the "loss function" that a key to maintaining the balance between theproduction cost and product value for the customer is to control process variability. Using the loss function, which expresses the result departing from the target (TARGET) incurs a cost, which increases exponentially as the variability increases.
The variabiliadad is a factor that directly impacts satisfaction levels since their presence uncontrolled cost increases, which are absorbed by the...
