1. How many people are in Toussiant Maheu’s (Depardieu) family and what was their future?
There are 10 people in Toussiant Maheu’s family: The parents, the grandfather and the 7 children.
Theyhave no future because they have very little money, enough to eat, and because of that they are living in a house that the mine owns, and the children they’re not going to have an education and whenthey can they would go to work in the mine.

2. What economic situation and how many go to work? What does the mother do to make ends meet?
They have a really bad economic situation, they had theenough money to eat. The mother goes to the bourgeois family to ask for food and clothes. She also goes to the local shopkeeper to ask for some food but he doesn’t give nothing to the people andsometimes she has to change food with the clothes that the rich people have given them.

3. What do they do in their free time and what plans to do they have for the future?
They sometimes go to thebar and drink some beer. In the village festivals they go to dance. They don’t really have plans for the future, the only one is to have children so they can work to get money for the family.

4.What type of life does the rich Bourgeois family have and are they generous with their money?
They have a luxury life. They normally are the owners of a company or of some of them. They don’t givemoney, when the mother of the family asks for money they answer her that they are not used to that.

He suggests to go on strike to askfor more money and for better working conditions. This finishes in a tragedy where Toussiant Maheu dies because of a shoot of a guard of the mine and a lot of people dies when a man floods the mine.6.
