Global Warming

Normally, one would think that things like sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll are what damage society. This is because, sometimes, we forget to see the bigger picture. We focus too much on what goes on inour individual lives, rather than taking a step back and analyzing what goes on in the world as a whole. I got news for you, and it’s pretty big. They call it…global warming, and it’s quite scary.The two words that make up this phenomenon jump out at us immediately. There’s global, which refers to the world, and then there’s warming, which refers to increasing temperature. Now, let’s see whatour little friend I like to call the dictionary has to say. According to it, it is the rise of average temperatures in Earth’s atmosphere and oceans. The human population is under the impression thatthis means that a couple of glaciers are going to melt. We need to understand that all of our decisions work in a domino affect, and the consequences to our decisions can beget other, more seriousconsequences.
The first question is how did this problem occur? Basically, we have an excess of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. The Sun’s rays hit the Earth in order to produce heat and energy. Asthe heat exits Earth’s atmosphere, the accumulation of the greenhouse gases traps it in our atmosphere, not allowing the heat to run its natural course, and therefore, causing global warming.Greenhouse gases, however, aren’t the problem. They are needed in order to keep the Earth warm in enough to support life (greenhouse effect). It is the excess of these gases that causes the problem. Thisaccumulation occurs due to the human population’s use of fossil fuels like coal, petroleum, and natural gas that we use in order to drive cars, use electricity, or heat our homes.
