The American punk rock band Green Day was created in 1987 and is made of three musicians: Billie Joe Armstrong – singer –, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool. They chose this namebecause they like smoking Marijuana. Their first international success was the album Dookie in 1994 but we have had to wait till 2004 for a new success with the album American idiot. This CD has apolitical commitment that the other albums didn’t have. This new opus has been released two months before the 2004 presidential elections and was specially directed against the president Georges W. (alker)Bush and his re-election. The band participated in many demonstrations not only against the American president but also for the climate change or Amnesty International campaigns (Darfur issue).Song interpretation
