HAKUNA MATATA!

First of all, Miss, I want to tell that I hope you value my essay since choosing the topic for it has been one of the toughest decisions of my life. I truly didn’t know what to write about since I initially came up with a variety of ideas, like writing about fashion, or maybe art, or animals, or any of my favorite topics besides those. But none of them seem to convince me.
So Ichose to write about the things we could do with our lives, and started an essay about the careers we could study and how to choose them, but after writing half a page I realized that something was wrong, so I changed the topic to this one.

Since we are very young we are often asked this question: “What do you want to be when you grow up?”. Many of us would answer things like fireman, doctor, veterinary, artist, astronaut, policeman, and a big list full of “important” jobs and professions. And that is obvious since adults always tell children that those are the careers that one is supposed to choose, because those are the ones with a secure future.

I’m 18 years old now, and I still don’t know what career I am going to study. I question myself about it every single day. “What shouldI study? What am I going to do with my life? What am I supposed to do? How would I know what to study?”.
So, after all this questioning I realized something else, something that maybe not everyone comes to think. Why do I have to study a career to be someone important in life?. I’m not saying that we don’t have to study at all, but I think we worry too much about choosing the right career, theone that will give us the biggest amount of money possible and we usually forget that is better, so much better, if we choose to do the things we really like and enjoy instead of the thing that will make us earn more money. We forget that Money comes and goes and that the most important thing is to be happy with our own selves and the ones around us. We have to choose a career that makes us feelcomfortable and happy. That’s why you should always have in mind the things you like to do, what you enjoy, what makes you passionate.

For example, I love drawing. It’s one of my favorite things in life, I could draw for hours and never get bored. I really enjoy it, but people think that being a painter for example, is being a mediocre person. But, why being able to express what you feel and thinkin a painting and making a living out of it would be something mediocre? Living out of something you love to do, like Picasso, Van Gogh or Da Vinci if we speak of artists, or Grabrielle Chanel, Alexander Moqueen or Cristóbal Baleciaga speaking of fashion Designers is not mediocre at all, otherwise, why would we even speak about these people?. Everyone, or at least every person I’ve asked about itthink that being a fashion designer is something meaningless. But I think that as long as you are doing something you love everything is going to be just fine. Fashion Designers, just as painters, make a kind of art, and art is the expression of your own vissions, feelings and thoughts.
Musicians, for example, are people that obviously are supposed to like music, and I know that many peopledon’t really see how difficult it is to be a musician, they just think that singing is not the same as being really good at math, and don’t realize that the singer does what he loves and singing is not as easy as it seems, it takes years of preparation and a lot of concentration just as any career or profession does.

Sometimes we are blinded by the material world therefore we stop paying attention tothe important stuff like family, animals, nature, our body, we forget about L-I-V-I-N-G. People tend to workd after they’ve finished university, then they have a family, because that’s the standard order of things, and don’t even take time for themselves, they are too busy making money. I think we must never forget about family, it’s a gift, the most important thing anyone can have. We...
