Ellie, the main character in our story, is a seventeen-year-old girl from yorkshire. in britain you can leave school when you are sixteen but most young people stay at school until they are eighteenso that they can take the final school exam, called ´A levels´ - advanced level exams. Ellie has started the two years study for A levels, and when the story begins she is talking one of the severalexams you have to do during these two years. As for many young people, it was dificult for her to choose what to study at A level: something useful for a career or something she enjoyed?
anotherthing she has in common with many other young people is that she works a few hours a week to earn some money. A lot of young people find work on Saturdays or in the christmas period stacking shelves,making sure that the shelves in a shop are always full. Ellie is luckyly because her father owns a shop, and so she can work for him.
Ellie lives in a village in yorkshire, an area of great naturalbeauty in the noth of england. But the action of the story moves from yorkshire to glandstonbury, in the south-west of England. Can you find both places in the map? some people believe that the mythical´island of Avalon´, where king Arthur was taken after his last battle, was located near glandstonbury. But for more than thirty years glandstonbury has been famous for a very diferent reason, and thisis why Ellie goes there.
