How Can We Save Endangered Species
In order to conserve the biodiversity of the planet, one must take into consideration the reasons why so many species are becomingendangered; they’re such as habitat loss, pollution, climate change, over-exploitation and many others.
Diversity of life and living systems are a necessary condition for human development. Manyquestion the importance of maintaining biodiversity in today's world, where conservation efforts prove costly and time consuming.
What are the benefits of saving endangered species?
Species relyon each other in a complicated and extremely delicate ecological network, so removing one, especially a keystone species, can have disastrous results.
Plants and animals hold medicinal, agricultural, ecological, commercial and recreational value. Endangered species must be protected and saved so that future generations can experience their presence and value.
Also many medicines are made fromchemicals that came from plants and animals. And yet so far, only a tiny portion of all the species in the world have been investigated for their medicinal potential. Decreasing an area's biodiversityonly lessens the chance of finding more such breakthroughs.
What are some of the challenges in saving endangered species?
When it comes to saving a species near the brink of extinction, thereare several hurdles that have to be overcome. For example, a base population is often placed in captivity to control breeding efforts and ensure genetics are managed to avoid excessive inbreeding. Butsometimes it can be difficult to keep animals alive in captivity, or they can be disinclined to breed in zoo conditions. There can also be issues with disease and domestication.
