When we give opinions or talk about our beliefs we often use noun clauses. Noun clauses act like the object of the verb. They often follow verbslike say, think, and believe.

3 Jose Changotaxi, a student leader in the Ecuadorian indigenous community, was interviewed on the radio. Read his interview.Some of his thoughts and beliefs are numbered. Complete the sentences that follow with his numbered thoughts.

How are indigenous people treated in Ecuador?
Not good. Most people think indigenouspeople are lazy and uneducated.1 Some say they are thieves and dishonest. Many people treat them like slaves!2 They don't realize that many indigenous people are very hardworking and trustworthy.Is racism better or worse than it was ten years ago?
I think it is about the same.3 Maybe it's getting a little better. People are more aware of racism nowadays.4 A few indigenous people are gettingbetter jobs5. Some are even in politics. We still have a long way to go, however, before racism is stopped.

What can we do to stop racism in Ecuador?
We can teach our children tolerance forpeople of other races6. We can learn about other cultures.7 We can send our children to schools where many different types of people are represented. I believe that some day we can erase racism from ourcountry!8
