Interviewing Tips Follow-up Questions...Completing the STAR (Situation/Task, Action, Results) Situations/Tasks Tell me about a time… Describe a situation when…Give me a specific example of… Tell me about another time… Actions Walk me through the steps you took… How did you do that? What actions did you take? Why did youtake that approach? Results How did that situation turn out? What type of feedback did you receive? How did you know that the customer was satisfied? Targetedfollow-up questions can be created directly from the key actions from the competencies. Job Fit Follow-up Questions When were you the most satisfied/dissatisfied? Whatwas satisfying/dissatisfying about that situation? Why did you find that situation satisfying/dissatisfying? Listen for feeling words. Feeling words will give youinsight on whether a candidates likes/dislikes specific elements of the job. Post Interview Instructions 1. Identify complete STARS. (See definition above) 2.Classify STARS into appropriate competencies. 3. Determine the effectiveness/ineffectiveness of the STARS based on the results and actions. Assign a + or –respectively. 4. Consider the Similarity of the STAR to the target job, Impact the STAR had, and Recency of the STAR (recent STARS will reflect more accurate behaviors). 5.Rate the competencies using the following scale. 5 Much more than acceptable 4 More than acceptable 3 Acceptable 2 Less than acceptable 1 Much less than acceptableClarifying Ratings W Weak/Need More Data 5H Too High; very strong in one competency, which directly has a negative impact on another competency N Non-observable
