NATURAL GAS IN VENEZUELA

The importance of natural gas as an energy source is primarily in the low environmental impact that has on fuel use compared to other carburantes1, and it is a very important resource as raw material for industry, as well as a final product very useful for domestic and commercial sectors. For these reasons, the abundance of its fields and lowproduct price, thevalue of the hydrocarbon gas has increased significantly over the last two decades and also has an expanding international market, with an expected increase the world demand for oil by 2.5% annually over the last decade to 2.9% annually for the next ten years.
In this context, Venezuela is in a privileged position to become the eighth country in theworld 3 and the first in Latin America as faras natural gas reserves of concerns, withabout 4.2 trillion cubic meters. This magnitude of reserves allows a country the size ofVenezuela (about 26 million) to supply the domestic market extensively and havesurpluses for export.
For decades, the engine of the economy has been oil, "ignoring" the potential of itsgas resources. This somehow makes sense when you consider that the oil market hasdeveloped in advance and that demand for this product by the industrialized economies in the second half of the twentieth century has been spectacular, so muchhas been created a strong dependency to this resource. Moreover, in the case ofVenezuela, a large proportion of proven gas reserves are characterized by beingassociated with oil, so much of the production of gas is injected or vented. Itshould be noted as evidence of interest in Venezuela late for natural gas, which until 1969 was not approved a decree regulating the conservation of oil, whose main objective was to regulate the burning of gas in the so-called burners.
However, if it is justifiable for the Venezuelan natural gas industry has developed much later than the oil does not seem consistent that a country with a levelof proven reservesas extraordinary not fully exploit the great potential of this resource provides namely, Venezuela does not have a network of pipelines to supply gas interior to all regions of country. (Insufficient transmission system) or with an adequate distribution network to supply gas to all industries that need in those regions where yes there is gas. However,it is true that domesticconsumption of natural gas per capita is among the highest in the region. It also appears that there is a strong mentality "gasify" the Republic by creating the necessary infrastructure to develop the gas industry nationally, with the ultimate goal of meeting the gas requirements of the industrial sector, although the domestic sector and the commercial.
On the other hand, Venezuela exported productsderived from natural gas, mainlypropane, butane and natural gasoline, natural gas but does not export via pipelines or liquefied (LNG). Unlike the domestic market, which as said it seems that there is political will to carry out development projects at the international level is notdeveloping a clear strategy to exploit all possible gains that could arise from gas exports natural. And this isthe main issue of work: why Venezuela does not exportnatural gas? There are various benefits to the country to export via pipelines or LNGapart from the purely economic benefits of the activity, such as progress in the regionalenergy integration process, the positive social impact, the country's position as an international in the gas market, among others.
For these reasons it is important tounderstand the reasons for not currently export gas. To understand, you must first analyze what is the status of Venezuelan gas sectortoday. This analysis is done in Section II, which contains a section devoted to the supply, demand and another one in which provision is a Venezuelan gas market in 2020.
Additionally, summarizing the general energy policy of this oil in Venezuela and in the...
