Textbook Evaluation of Nexos
In my assignment of textbook evaluation, I decide to evaluate Nexos because it seemed to me interesting due to its cover presentation and colorful images as well asquality of paper. Even though I am not teacher yet, I want to do my best evaluating this Nexos textbook to gain experience and be able to see differences between books due that I have read someSpanish books. In this particular book, it has 14 chapters and the autors make some suggestions about some possible configurations, depending of the course format. It there is a two semester syllabus (3-5class periods per week), the professor will cover one chapter every two weeks until week 14 which will cover chapter 7, and on week 15 making a review a final exam.
In Nexos second editionbook, each chapter is organized in sections which allow the student to be aware of the chapter content. For example, at the beginning of each chapter, there is a communicative and cultural objetives,cultural information and comprehension quizzes that test students’ about their background knowledge. Before watching video and viewing activities, there are an introduction to specific vocabulary focusedin the coming activities that will give the students the freedom of connect what they are watching on the electronic blackboard with the previous vocabulary practice. In the structure of grammarsection, it focuses on grammar rules and forms, como hacerlo, como formarlo, and the basic rules for grammatical terms. Futhermore, Nexos has two listening-based grammar activities per chapter and videotutorial for each grammar topic that is introduced in each chapter. The section !Explora y expresate!, focuses on cultural skills sections and take the students to practice their knowledge learned fromprevious material studied in the first half of the chapter.
