Lamb to the slaughter

Mary Maloney adores her husband, and every evening she eagerly awaits his return from work. She always waits for her husband with a warm and clean homely atmosphere. She is aloving wife. When he arrived, she laid aside her sewing, stood up, and went forward to kiss as he came in. as usual, she took his coat and hung it in the closet, and then she made the drinks. Forher, this was always a blissful time of day. She knew that he didn’t like to talk much until the first drink was finished. But that day it was the second drink and he didn’t speak either. She felt thatsomething was wrong because he did unusual things, for example he made the 3 drink and it was darker.
As usual, they went out to have dinner on Thursday, but that Thursday, he looked very tired, soshe asked him if he wanted to eat at home some meat that it was in the freezer. She glanced up his eyes waiting for an answer, a smile or a little nod, but he replayed her that he didn’t.
Sheinsisted him to have dinner, but one more time he told her he didn’t want to and he asked her to sit down because he had to say an important matter. He advised her it was very difficult for him to make suchdecision. For minutes she didn’t move and then her first instinct was not to believe any of it. She decided to make the supper and she went to the freezer and took off a leg of lamb. But Patrick toldher not to make supper for him because he was going out. Mary walked up behind him and she swung the big frozen leg of lamb and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head. Maryrealized that Patrick was dead.
She was afraid of the future of the unbornchild but she tried to be calm herself and she went on doing all the things as an usual day.
In front of the mirror sherehearsed ones and again to speak and smile because she had to go shopping. Then she went to the shop and bought some things to make the supper. She did all as she wasn’t specting to find anything,...
