Parroting its earlier success with the Softsoap® Antibacterial Liquid Hand Soap Aquarium Series in four 2D fish-themed packages, Colgate-Palmolive Co. has introduced its new Rainforest™ Series,adding a bit of monkey business by way of a third dimension. The imaginative series includes three different bottle designs, with whimsical animal figurines—a parrot, a panda and a monkey—placed inside theclear handsoap bottles. The animals, suspended against colorful, jungle backgrounds, are attached to the tube of the dispensing pump, as if grasping the branch of a tropical tree.
Says SheilaHopkins, vp & general manager, U.S. Personal Care for Colgate, “The success of the Soaftsoap Aquarium line with 2D animals and characters inside the bottle inspired further exploration of ideas, and led toa 3D evolution.”
The work of Colgate's design group, vibrantly colored package graphics and figurines transport consumers to lush surroundings replete with purple-tinged mountains (parrot),refreshing waterfalls (panda) and tree-lined pools of still blue water (monkey).
The Rainforest Series uses a bottle introduced in '00 for other Softsoap varieties that is manufactured by Colgate of clearpolyethylene terephthalate. Front and back biaxially oriented polypropylene labels, printed by Sancoa Intl. with letterpress inks, transform the bottles into lush tropical dioramas.
The back label, awhite BOPP stock, includes product usage and ingredient information on one side, while the second side is printed with the jungle images, which face inward into the bottle. The front label, a clearBOPP, depicts the foreground with decorative borders. The Softsoap logo appears prominently at the label top.
According to Hopkins, the figurines are produced in China by an unnamed supplier, while thedispensing pump is from Calmar. Bottles are filled by Colgate in its Morristown, NJ, facility.
