MAIN TARGETS OF THE ENGLISH SUBJECT MATTER

Aquellos que se dirigen específicamente al logro de competencias en determinados dominios del saber y del desarrollo personal. Se denomina Objetivos FundamentalesVerticales a aquellos que se aplican a determinados cursos y niveles, y cuyo logro demanda aprendizajes y experiencias vinculadas a ámbitos disciplinarios específicos del curriculum de la Educación Básica y E. Media.

The main objectives were submitted to adjustments resulting the following changes:

Curricular adjustments of the English Program

The present society imposes demands to thesecondary graduate that due to the insertion in the globalised world the terminal students can manage a foreign language that allows them successfully to face diverse communicative situations and that, at the same time, have active participation in the superior education or in the the labor world .

The English language is particularly important for its ample use at international level, inthe commercial, technological and scientific areas.

The main intention of the curriculum of English is to give the students the necessary abilities to use the language like a tool that allows them to access to the information, as well as to solve simple communicative situations of varied nature, in oral and written form. It is also an intention important progressively to promote thedevelopment of mental abilities of superior order and to develop the capacity to appreciate other styles of life, traditions and ways of thinking.

The Main targets in the English subject are those required to satisfy learning and experiences related to the goals of the discipline. They are:

The 4 abilities for learning a second language:

Listening comprehension

Reading comprehensionSpeaking

Writing

Additionally, the development of the vocabulary plays an important role and constitutes in itself a main target. This objective establishes the understanding of 3000 words at the end of 4th grade high school.

Sixth refers to the formation and personal growth, promoted in this sector .from 5th to 4th grade of secondary school.

The English subject contributes to this objective delivering the students a tool to have access to the information, knowledge, technology, new lifestyles, traditions and different ways of thinking with the purpose of personal formation and instrumentally for labour, academic or professional aims. Toachieve these objectives it is necessary to update the content and the development of linguistic abilities within our educational, social, geographical and economical reality.
