RETURNING TO THE LANDS
As all of us love the incredible comforts of the city starting from utilities like water, electricity, internet, etc. as well as luxuries like shopping centers, jewel stores,big cinemas, extraordinary restaurants and SPA’s. Nevertheless, unemployment is increasing in metropolises of all countries. As a result of this many people will abandon their houses in the bigcities to return to the countryside, this is called immigration. A great number of countries have experienced migration from rural to urban areas. Not only has it happen from the rural to the urban area,but also from not developed countries to first world ones and we know this term as emigration.
In Ecuador the cacao boom in the last years of XIX century caused an important mass moving fromhighlands to the coastal region. This has been a good example of a good immigration, from a region to other but highland farmers migrated to another farms and it led a good develop of Ecuadorian economybecause of two reasons. First, farmers went to work on their own occupation; they just went to live to other place. Second, there was a need to work in the new cacao farms since there were only few peopleto take those jobs in the coastal countryside.
However, not all immigrations have been favourable for our economy. The capital of Ecuador, Quito, is facing unemployment. 18 000 people applied to befiremen; but it was said in announces that there were only 50 jobs (Sonorama radio). So, what’s going on? It might be that the third part of these men has a job and they want a better one, but whatabout the two thirds of them, would all those 12 000 people really want to be firemen? The answer is no of course. Quito is a city that has faced immigration from countryside and from other cities fromEcuador like Ibarra, Latacunga, Tulcán, Esmeraldas, etc. and the country people of course, a lot of country towns don`t have good life conditions and they usually find them in big cities.
